Want Me Wednesday

Today as I was browsing rescue sites to choose this week's "Want Me Wednesday" pug, I stumbled upon Pug Rescue of North Carolina and the story of Tinkerbell. I've heard quite a few rescue horror stories, but hers just about broke my heart.

Owner Surrender; April 4, 2007

Reason: Owner stated she was surrendering Tinkerbell because she was aggressive toward her older blind dogs. No previous medical record could be obtain, the owner could only state to me a friend gave her Tinkerbell and promised medical records but was never given them.

Visual Evaluation upon surrender: Appearance clean, coat soft to the touch, general health appeared to be good. No aggression seen toward other dogs, was more scared of them and would run and hide Very timid and scared of humans and would also run and hide. Would not eat well.

Vet evaluation: As he shaved one area he would see more and more lesions; severe bacterial infection of the skin, fungus present, and she seemed in severe pain when you touch her skin. Suspected some kind of severe burns which penetrated through several layers of her skin from either, chemicals, hot grease, boiling hot water etc....

Aggressive treatment to follow the next 30 days: Major antibiotics for 30 days, bath twice a week in Malaseb, LymDyp dips every 10 days, animax ointment applied daily.

This is just the beginning of her story. To read her horrible tale of skin graphs, infections, and see some graphic photos of Tinkerbell's injuries click on her name - otherwise just trust me when I say it's bad.

If you are the loving home that poor Tinkerbell has been looking for please fill out an application today. And if not, please consider making a donation to help cover the cost of her medical care.

I hope the police go after that lady! She knew what happened when she brought her in. Awful!
